Moggerhanger Open Day

The Thornton Institute was represented at the Open Day at Moggerhanger Park on Saturday 12th September with a joint presentation on "After the Financial Crisis" by two of the Directors. Slide presentation.

Think Tank on the Current Financial Situation

A gathering of creative and strategic thinkers was held just after Easter on Friday 17th April at Moggerhanger.

Leadership under Pressure

The recently reported experiences of the leaders of major employers in the public and private sectors indicate the intensity of pressure and the workload in modern society.
The Thornton Institute is very concerned about this and is to commence looking at the slavery of senior leadership. This might include ‘saving face’, office politics, lack of courage, job security, mortgages, debt, cost reduction, supply chain pressure, down sizing and increasingly ‘lean’ organisations.

Consultation on the Legacy of Slavery

This Consultation was held during December 2007 at House of Lords, Westminster. It was sponsored by The Spirit of Wilberforce and Free at Last? projects of the Centre for Contemporary Ministry (CCM). The welcome and introduction was by Baroness Cox and the convenor was Dr Clifford Hill, Ministry Director of CCM. Leaders from the Caribbean and African communities spoke of the needs of young people. The proposed Life Skills and Leadership Training Programmes from CCM and the Thornton Institute were well received.

Wilberforce Commemoration

The 200th anniversary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade was marked by a replica 18th-century wooden square rigger, renamed The Zong which sailed up the River Thames through Tower Bridge and moored at Tower Pier where it was open to the public with an exhibition of slavery for ten days.
